As Headset Buddy has stated in previous blog posts, the Interactive portion of 2014’s South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival is where our major interest lies. Not that we’re haters of music or film – what kind of monsters would that make us? – but Headset Buddy’s communication technology business is fascinated by the visionaries and history being made each year at SXSW Interactive. As we say every year in the city of Austin, this year’s installment promises to break new boundaries.
Head over to SXSW’s official interactive website for a comprehensive (and dizzyingly packed) view of what conferences, speakers, panels and events are being offered this year. HB couldn’t let the final week before the festival begins go by without detailing which events in this “incubator of cutting-edge technologies and digital creativity” that we are most excited about.
Also, just to be honest, we’re sure there will be plenty of opportunities for our headset-accommodating tech products at South by Southwest. Headset Buddy will be investigating many avenues for our wares during the March 7-11th event.
Perhaps it goes without saying that we think the official “opening” program – “Welcome to SXSW Interactive” – is a must-attend. SXSW Interactive Director Hugh Forrest will be presenting a wide-ranging overview of this year’s Interactive slate. The event, taking place at noon on March 7 at the Austin Convention Center, is described ONLINE this way:
“Welcome to the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival. We’re excited that you’ll be joining us for 5 days of amazing panel content and networking events. SXSW is a community event, so we invite you to come kick off the event with us, ask SXSW Interactive Director Hugh Forrest any questions you might have, and introduce yourself to the other attendees you’ll be sharing this experience with.”
Another exciting and possibly controversial event is entitled Apps Exposed: A Look Into The Most Dangerous Apps. People are using Headset Buddy products with their smartphones all the time. What “dangerous” apps are they using HB products with? So far, all we have to go on is this EVENT DESCRIPTION:
“We are a nation of smartphone addicts: 7 out of 10 adults keep their smartphone near most of the time. However, as we hold our phones close and protect them from harm, do they return the favor or are they up to no good behind-the-scenes? In this session, we will discuss the biggest mobile security threats and highlight key examples, including the top three “good” apps and the top three “most dangerous” apps based on malicious content and risky app behaviors. Attendees will learn from a panel of industry experts about how apps infect devices, collect (and sell) data on users and other risks, along with new ways to keep mobile devices secure. Sponsored by Webroot.”
“Dangerous Apps” takes place Saturday, March 8th at 11 a.m. at the Radisson Town Lake Riverside Ballroom.
One final event plug: a fun-looking party called Patents On Tap With Fish & Richardson. This is happening on the final day of SXSW Interactive, Tuesday, March 11th at 1309 E. 7th Street. What’s up with it? It says this online:
“Do you like friendly competition? Free beer? Learning how to protect your IP? This pub quiz will test your knowledge about IP basics, and challenge you to think about inventorying and securing your assets, effectively merging IP with business goals, and avoiding future pitfalls.”
This will be the last time Headset Buddy is able to communicate before the end of SXSW Interactive, so we just want to wish everyone a good and safe festival. Let us know if HB can help you communicate during your Austin travels!
